Issue Position

I believe that every American has the right to quality, comprehensive, affordable health care. Today, over 45 million Americans lack health insurance. Millions more encounter a health care system that is unresponsive or inadequate in meeting their basic needs because they are underinsured. This is simply unacceptable.

America must recognize the right to quality health care for two reasons. First, achieving and maintaining good health is a key component of the American Dream and equality of opportunity. Second, our economic competitiveness demands that we no longer link the provision of health care to employment. U.S. businesses are at a competitive disadvantage because they pay for their employee's health care, yet their foreign competitors do not.
