Issue Position: Veterans

Issue Position

America's fighting men and women should be able to count on the full and unwavering support of their government. Our veterans have faced their battles on the battlefield. They should not have to engage in further combat with their own government upon their return. I believe we have a duty to protect and provide for every American who serves, and I pledge to always honor their sacrifices and their dedication.

Health Care

It is shameful that America's wounded are forced to wait at least six months for access to proper health care and rehabilitation services. My colleagues and I are working tirelessly to give America's veterans the honor and dignity they so richly deserve.

During the 110th Congress, the House passed the largest veterans' funding increase in the 77-year history of the Veterans Administration. This groundbreaking legislation will help improve services at VA hospitals, reduce waiting times, and eliminate shameful tragedies like the Walter Reed scandal. As a member of the House Committee on Appropriations, I take personal pride in the passage of this critical funding.

Veterans History Project

The U.S. Congress created the Veterans History Project, which is administered through the Library of Congress, in an effort to collect and archive the personal recollections of U.S. wartime veterans. As the Chairwoman for the House Appropriations Committee on the Legislative Branch, which funds the Library of Congress, I am committed to any efforts that seek to honor the service of our veterans and ensure that their stories and experiences can be heard by current and future generations.
