Back in Sioux Falls!

Statement

Back in Sioux Falls!

It's so great to be home. I visited my parents before coming to Sioux Falls, and since then it's been a constant parade of family members these past few days-- I absolutely love it. Right now I'm at home, surrounded by family—including my grandchildren who are sixth generation South Dakotans! Being back in South Dakota is a constant reminder of why I'm running for reelection—I love this state and its people. When I got sick a year and a half ago, Barb and I received such an unbelievable outpouring of thoughts and prayers from South Dakotans. It was their belief in me that helped me recover, and I really do believe I've been given a second chance at life to work on their behalf. That is why I chose to run for reelection—I want to keep serving the people and the state that I love so much.

Tonight Barb and I went to a Canaries Game, where my son, granddaughter and grandson all threw out the first pitches! I saw lots of friends and loved seeing our team win over the Wichita Wingnuts. The Canaries looked great. Before the game started, some of our Army's talented parachuters flew onto the field—they were terrific. The Birdcage is such a testament to the economic growth and prosperity in Sioux Falls, and has been a great gathering place for the Sioux Empire. Two weeks ago we threw a fundraiser on the party deck—I was working in Washington and couldn't attend but am hoping that everyone behaved themselves! Ever since Sioux Falls got its own team fifteen years ago, Barb and I have enjoyed taking our kids, and now the grandchildren, out to the ballpark. Growing up, I always loved baseball. I remember being 14 and the excitement when the Washington Senators came to our region and were renamed the Minnesota Twins.

It's been a very active session in the Senate, to say the least. I love being able to escape Washington and can't tell you enough how wonderful it is to be home. I look forward to visiting with as many of you as possible over the next month as I travel around the state.
