Issue Position

The United States has long had the most technologically advanced, accessible health care system in the world, but that health care system has now reached a defining moment. With increasing medical costs and fewer employers willing to provide health insurance for their employees, many Americans are left to search out affordable alternatives on their own.

As a physician myself, and having practiced for over two decades in North Texas, I am very aware of the medical needs of the American public. Now as I serve in the US House of Representatives, I am using my first hand knowledge and expertise to face the current health care dilemma head on. Over the past few years, I have worked with my colleagues in Congress to pass a prescription drug plan, which has made costly medicines more accessible to seniors. Also, my colleagues and I passed legislation which made Health Savings Accounts more available to the individual worker. These Health Savings Accounts allow for individuals to open investment-type accounts with tax free dollars and direct that money towards their own individual health care needs. I plan to continue to enhance the productivity of these Health Savings Accounts by making the premium payments for these accounts entirely tax-deductible.

As your Congressman I will continue working towards more accessible and cost effective health care for every American, and with your support, I will work to ensure that the United States can continue to boast of the most advanced medical system in the world.
