CONG. ELIOT ENGEL ON HELEN SIEGER ARREST

I admire the steadfastness of the 220 workers of Local 1199 who are on strike for just wages and benefits for their work at the home. They have shown the spirit of unionism that elevated Americans workers out of poverty and dangerous working conditions to become participants of the prosperity that made our country the envy of the world. No workers, indeed no one at all, should be denied access to medical care because they lack insurance.

I applaud the actions of Attorney General Cuomo. This community and its elected officials have stood together with Local 1199 to bring justice to the workers at KHR&CC. Helen Sieger's arrest should stand as an example that when people take advantage of their workers, they will be punished.
