Issue Position: Agriculture
Agriculture is the backbone of our great nation. This nation's farmers and ranchers work tirelessly to produce the food shared at family tables every day. Agriculture holds the promise for a bright future in the United States. Today's farmers and ranchers find themselves at the forefront of research and contribute to the fields of medicine and renewable energy. Only through continued support from the federal government will agriculture remain a reliable and viable part of our nation's economy.
John Salazar serves on the House Committee on Agriculture. From this post, Congressman Salazar will help shape our future agriculture policy. This year, the Committee will consider important issues such as Permanent Disaster Relief for farmers and ranchers and renewable energy through ethanol plants, solar and wind farms. The committee will also write the 2007 Farm Bill. "We want to make sure we are paying farmers to farm," Salazar says about the upcoming farm bill. "I will always work to preserve Colorado's rural heritage and to me this means protecting and preserving agriculture."
