Rep. Johnson: Heller Decision Boosts Citizen Rights

U.S. Rep. Johnson today issued the following statement after the Supreme Court struck down a 32-year-old handgun ban in the nation's capital.

"The decision in the case of the District of Columbia v. Heller is a historic moment in history, restoring common sense and constitutional rights to law-abiding citizens," Rep. Johnson said. "The decision affirms what most of us believed, that the Second Amendment is a sacred and essential part of American Constitutional law.

"It is my hope that this decision is a clear signal to judges, governors and mayors across the country who would seek to infringe on this basic right. This is just one of many long-fought battles for the protection of our freedoms. Those will continue, but for today at least, it is a good day."
