SPACE OUTRAGED THAT CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS BLOCK ALASKAN DRILLING BILL
- Legislation Would Have Increased Drilling, Stopped Alaskan Oil Exports to Other Countries, and Forced Oil Companies to Use 68 Million Acres of Oil Leases They Currently Own -
Despite persistent calls to increase drilling in Alaska, Congressional Republicans today blocked legislation that would have done exactly that - a move that Congressman Zack Space (OH-18) called irresponsible.
"The fact that Congressional Republicans have chosen to place partisan politics over the needs of our struggling families is absolutely irresponsible. We had the opportunity to increase drilling in Alaska, but Republicans are more interested in scoring political points than reducing gas prices."
"For the sake of American consumers, I hope that cooler heads will eventually prevail and bring relief at the pump. Unfortunately, the actions of Congressional Republicans have ensured that today will not be the beginning of that opportunity. Both Democrats and Republicans should stop playing politics and work together to reduce gas prices for the American public. "
Congressman Space has represented Ohio's 18th Congressional District since 2007. He is working to restore integrity to the office, expand Ohio's economy, and support renewable energy.
