TIBERI: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, AMERICANS DESERVE REAL ACTION ON ENERGY

Latest Democratic Bill Distraction From Real Issues - Reducing Prices, Creating Long Term Plan For American Energy Independence

U.S. Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-OH) today issued the following statement regarding the scheduled consideration of H.R.6604, the latest in the Democrats' actions to avoid debate on real energy reform and the Democrats' vote to adjourn for the month of August:

"Enough is enough. This bill, like others that Democrats have brought to the Floor, is a charade designed to fool Americans into thinking they are trying to lower energy prices. I know, Ohioans are smarter than that. Rather than allowing a vote to increase American production of traditional and alternative fuels, increase energy efficiency, and move toward American energy independence, Democrats would rather distort their record and deceive Americans into thinking they are doing something to lower energy prices. I'm not voting for H.R.6604 today because it prohibits debate on lifting the Congressional Ban on American drilling and prevents any amendments on to increase our oil supply from being introduced.

"The Democrat leaders today pushed through a resolution allowing the House of Representatives to leave Washington, D.C. for five weeks. We should not adjourn until they allow us to vote on a bill that would actually increase the production of American energy. Right now, they're preventing any discussion on the issue. After months of doing nothing, Democrats are ready to take a vacation while Americans are paying record gas prices, it's just not right. I'm done playing their games, Speaker Pelosi should allow an up or down vote on increased American production of energy."

Note: The Democrats' resolution to adjourn passed today by a vote of 213-212.
