Senator Harkin Commends Newly Confirmed First Female Four-Star General in Country's History

Iowa Senator praises General Dunwoody and will ask that she visit Rock Island Arsenal soon

U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) today congratulated the country's first ever female four-star general, General Dunwoody. General Dunwoody, whose confirmation was approved by the Senate last night, will serve as the Commanding General of the Army Materiel Command (AMC) which oversees much of the work being accomplished at the Rock Island Arsenal. AMC is a major command of the Army and oversees teams of soldiers, civilians and contractors who work to support and advance the efforts of our military forces.

"General Dunwoody is a highly accomplished officer and I am delighted to see her make history as the first ever four-star female general in America's history," said Harkin. "I look forward to meeting with her in the near future where I will invite her to come visit the Rock Island Arsenal so she can see first-hand the incredible work Iowans are doing to advance our military technologies."
