Pearce Response to President Bush's Remarks on the Economic Stimulus

Today, Congressman Steve Pearce made the following statement regarding President's Bush's proposal for an economic stimulus:

"Though our economy in New Mexico is continuing to grow, the possibility of a slow down is a real concern. I support the President's proposal for tax relief that is large, broad-based and immediate to head off any potential damage to the economy. Tax incentives for small businesses and middle-class tax relief are both steps in the right direction.

"Ultimately, I would like to see more tax relief made permanent, including the marriage tax relief, child tax credit, income taxes and death tax cuts that will expire in 2010. We face enormous tax increases in the next few years if we don't act quickly. Working families and American businesses do not need the government making it harder for them to increase their quality of life."
