Governor Huntsman Issues Statement about Crandall Canyon Reports
Utah Governor Jon Huntsman issued the following statement today in response to two reports that were issued yesterday concerning the Crandall Canyon Mine Disaster.
"These reports confirmed our worst suspicion: that no mining should have been taking place at the Crandall Canyon Mine due to unsafe conditions. There must be accountability on all levels.
State officials and our newly established Office of Coal Mine Safety are currently reviewing these two reports with an eye toward ensuring that unnecessary tragedies like Crandall Canyon do not occur again. Our goal is to make certain that Utah's coal miners are as safe as possible," Governor Huntsman said. "As we come upon the anniversary of this tragedy, our hearts and prayers are with these families and our friends in the mining community."
