BIDEN Issues Statement on the Senate's Approval of the International Convention Against Doping in Sport
Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Chairman of the Caucus on International Narcotics Control Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-DE) issued the following statement on the Senate's approval of the International Convention Against Doping in Sport:
"In just a few weeks, the world's athletes will meet in Beijing for the Summer Olympics. I am pleased that the Senate has now approved this Convention, which has been ratified by 87 countries around the world committed to a robust anti-doping code and high standards in international sport. Steroids and performance enhancing drugs not only pose great health risks, but they threaten the fundamental integrity of sports - sports are about hard work, determination and grit, not cheating. We should be able to stand with pride as the National Anthem is played and our athletes are commended for their hard-earned accomplishments."
