Urges Congress to Give States the Right to Open New Offshore Exploration

Congressman George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) today released the following statement after President Bush lifted the executive ban on offshore oil and gas exploration.

"President Bush sent a clear message to the Democrat majority in Congress today by lifting the executive ban on offshore oil and gas exploration: the ball is in your court.

"The onus is now on this Congress to bring a bill to the floor of the House to repeal the Congressional ban on new oil and gas exploration in the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). By merely lifting the ban and allowing individual states to decide how to use the resources of their coastline, Congress could signal to the market that America is serious about increasing oil production, which will provide reassurance and bring down the price of oil in the short and long term.

"This Congress should listen to the majority of the American people who are calling for new, American-made energy to lower the costs of gasoline."
