Graham is a key member of the Judiciary Committee and has played a leading role in pushing President Bush's most qualified and conservative nominees to Senate confirmation.
Ed Gillespie, former Chairman of the Republican National Committee who was tapped by the White House to coordinate the confirmation process for Supreme Court nominee John Roberts, called Graham a "hero" for his work in confirming Chief Justice Roberts to the Supreme Court.
And Gillespie said Graham, "donned his hero's cape again" when he apologized to the wife of Samuel Alito for the shoddy treatment and lack of respect her husband was being shown by some Senate Democrats. Many called the apology a key moment in the Judiciary Committee hearings for Alito.
