Blackburn Admonishes Professional Sports On Student Use Of Steroids
"How... You React May Determine The Future Of The Issue"
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) today took the management of the four major professional sports and their players unions to task for not doing enough to prevent and discourage the use of steroids among student athletes.
"And my question is how do you square this to your children and grandchildren and the message that you are sending to them? ... I would love to hear from you on that. What do you say to your own children?"
Seven million high school student athletes will take the field in 2008. Between two and six percent will take steroids.
"The debate is about how they are going to perceive your attitudes towards performance enhancing drugs. And how you, each of you on the panel, react may determine the future of the issue."
