Clyburn Hails Quick Passage of Economic Stimulus Bill

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today released the following statement regarding passage of the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act of 2008. The legislation will now be sent to the President to be signed into law.

"I'm pleased my colleagues on both sides of the aisle in the House and the Senate could come together and quickly approve a critical economic stimulus package that will provide timely, targeted, and temporary relief to those Americans overburdened by a struggling economy, high energy costs, rising health care payments, and crumbling housing markets.

"In order to combat the unyielding fiscal hardships being endured by everyday working families, it is essential that we put money back into the hands of those Americans who need it the most. This stimulus package puts money back into the pockets of hardworking Americans and provides well-deserved tax incentives to our nation's small businesses.

"I look forward to the President signing the stimulus package into law quickly. The American people are looking to Congress and the President for leadership during these turbulent times. This stimulus package responds to the needs of the American people and moves our economy in a New Direction."
