Bipartisan Economic Stimulus Package Signed Into Law

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn today joined President Bush at the White House for the signing of the bipartisan and bicameral Recovery Rebate and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act. After the ceremony he released the following statement.

"The $170 billion bipartisan economic stimulus package, signed into law today, is a victory for the American worker and American families struggling with high energy bills, rising health care costs, and impending foreclosures.

"This stimulus package will put money back into the hands of those Americans who need it most by providing tax rebates to over 130 million working families, 20 million low-income seniors and 250,000 disabled veterans. This legislation also provides incentives to small businesses in the form of write-offs to help create jobs.

"America's slowing economy is in urgent need of a boost. The stimulus package signed into law today seeks to combat our jobless rates, restore consumer confidence, and move our economy in a New Direction."
