Brown Talks Today's Issues With Tomorrow's Voters

To talk about current issues in Washington, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) recently held a live video-conference with junior and senior high school government students from Benjamin Logan High School in Bellefontaine, Ohio.

"Taking an active interest in our country's government is important," said Brown. "Mrs. McKelvey's high school government class exemplifies this interest. It is great to see tomorrow's voters working to understand their country."

"It was extremely beneficial for students to hear from politicians without the media translating the information," said Jill McKelvey, a Benjamin Logan High School Social Studies and AP Government teacher.

Brown answered questions from the advanced placement government students on topics including his efforts to lower gas prices, reduce home foreclosures, and improve federal educational policies. Students were also interested in Brown's educational background, the Senate committees he serves on, and his favorite part about being a Senator. McKelvey said the students who participated in the video conference call will be voting within the year. The discussion was held to help the students understand current issues from a leader's perspective.
