Governor Lynch Signs Housing Bills

Gov. John Lynch today signed several pieces of legislation aimed at encouraging more affordable housing for New Hampshire families.

"Every family in New Hampshire deserves a safe and healthy home. Homeownership not only fosters pride, it helps build communities, a stronger workforce and a stronger economy," Gov. Lynch said. "Unfortunately, we know many families are increasingly finding themselves priced out of the New Hampshire housing market. We understand the importance of finding homes for our hard-working families and that is why we are taking steps to help New Hampshire families find homes to call their own."

Gov. Lynch signed House Bill 1442, which simplifies and creates greater fairness in the Low Income Tax Credit Program, and will expand workforce housing options in New Hampshire; House Bill 1259, which authorizes municipalities to create housing commissions and revolving funds for the purpose of creating workforce housing; and Senate Bill 342, which creates an expedited appeals process for workforce housing developers facing legal challenges.

"Creating greater opportunities for affordable workforce housing here in New Hampshire is important to our families, our businesses and our economy," Gov. Lynch said.

The New Hampshire Business & Industry Association has long supported the state's efforts to expand workforce housing opportunities.

"The issue of workforce housing has been a priority of the New Hampshire business community for many years. The BIA and its members are pleased to see progress made on this key economic development issue," said David Juvet, Senior Vice President of the BIA.
