Statement from Congressional Candidate Gabrielle Ledoux on Exxon-Valdez Ruling
The Exxon-Valdez ran aground in Prince William Sound in 1989; 11 million gallons of oil were released into the area. Alaska is heavily dependent on the environment for employment and food sources, over 30,000 people were to have been awarded $5 billion in punitive damages from Exxon in the original ruling.
"I am deeply saddened by this Court ruling. This is devastating to the thousands of Alaskans whose lives were affected by the reckless actions of Exxon. I want to go to Congress to fight for Alaskan families. I want to work to prevent incidents like this from ever happening again."
Gabrielle LeDoux is a Candidate for Congress in the August 26th Republican Primary. She currently serves in the Alaska state legislature.
