Issue Position: Education
When you look at children, you are looking at our country's future. And to insure that future for our children and for our country, education - good, quality education - is essential.
I believe that education is predominantly a state and local issue and that the federal government should be a strong, supporting partner. I believe in local control of education. My wife Julianne has been a teacher for more than thirty years and my daughter Lia is a teacher today as well. So I have a first-hand perspective of education and its problems and opportunities.
I do want to try to do everything I can do, as your Senator, to provide the resources for a quality education for every single student.
It is a delicate balance, but if we keep the students central to the debate, it will keep the debate and the legislation properly balanced.
I would certainly like to hear your thoughts and suggestions on ways you Believe we can continue working to support and improve our schools.
