CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON SIGNS THE DECLARATION OF AMERICAN ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

Congressman Dan Burton [R-IN-05] signed The Declaration of American Energy Independence at a ceremony in the Capitol yesterday. The statement, sponsored by the Western Caucus, calls for the United States to end its dangerous dependence on foreign oil and allow environmentally sound development of the natural resources on American soil.

Burton said, "High energy prices are hurting all Americans. It has gotten so bad that towns and cities have been forced to limit emergency services. Even in the town of Gas City in my district, the police are forced to use golf carts to save money. I don't know how they can effectively do their jobs that way." Burton concluded, "Americans need relief now and both sides of the aisle must come together and figure out a way to lower these out-of-control energy prices immediately. We've been dependent on foreign oil for far too long and it not only hurts our economy, it jeopardizes America's security as well. I hope all my colleagues listen to their constituents and work toward energy independence."
