KERRY ON COAST GUARD'S DENIAL OF WEAVER'S COVE ENERGY'S APPEAL

Senator John Kerry issued the following statement regarding the Coast Guard's denial of an appeal by Weaver's Cove Energy today. The company had appealed the Coast Guard's previous determination that the waterway is navigationally unsuitable for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) shipments.

"The Coast Guard's ruling is welcome news for the people of Fall River and the communities along the Narragansett and Mount Hope Bays who have battled to stop this terminal. Common sense and the public interest won out over corporate special interests," said Senator Kerry. "We've said it before, and we'll say it again - this LNG terminal should never have been proposed and we will continue to do everything in our power to make sure it is defeated once and for all."
