Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, senior member of the Florida Congressional Delegation, is pleased to note that several important South Florida projects were funded during a Committee vote of the Fiscal Year 2009 Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill.
Ros-Lehtinen secured the following funds for these important projects in our community:
· $300,000 for the City of Miami Photo Crime Lab upgrades.
· $200,000 for the City of Miami Beach Teen Afterschool Gang & Drug Prevention Program.
· $300,000 for the ARISE Foundation Life Management Skills for At-Risk Youth.
These federal funds will help our cash strapped municipalities at a time when revenue is scarce due to several factors affecting the abilities of our cities and towns to balance their budgets.
Said Ros-Lehtinen: "These funds will permit for these important projects to be completed and thus help our cities tackle crime and drug use among our youth. I look forward to assuring that these projects are part of any final bill that makes it to the House floor for a vote."
