ROSKAM: AMERICA SAFER TODAY WITH EXTENSION OF FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE ACT
Congressman Peter J. Roskam (R-IL) today released the following statement after Congress passed H.R. 6304, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, which will greatly enhance our nation's intelligence gathering capabilities:
"After 124 days blind to terrorist threats, Congress finally got its act together and passed an extension of FISA, giving our intelligence community the necessary tools it needs to protect this country.
"We as a nation must guard against any temptation to return to a pre-9/11 mindset where complacency prevailed.
"Not only does today's passage mark a win for the security of our homeland, it sends a clear message to our enemies that America is serious about protecting our troops and our citizens.
"The passage of FISA is the second bipartisan compromise in as many days, reinforcing the fact that progress only happens when we work together."
