Congressman Jerry Moran today announced that Dr. Bob Moser of Tribune has been appointed by Secretary of Veterans Affairs Dr. James B. Peake to serve on the newly formed Rural Health Advisory Committee. In February, the VA announced it was creating a national advisory panel on rural health to advise the top leaders of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) about health care issues affecting veterans in rural areas. Upon learning of the panel, Moran nominated Dr. Bob Moser of Tribune.

"Dr. Moser is well qualified to serve on the advisory panel," Moran said. "He has been heavily involved in rural health policy both as a practicing physician in rural America and through several medical organizations such as his leadership in the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians and his activities with the American Academy of Family Physicians. As a medical doctor working to provide the best care for his veteran patients living in a highly rural area of Kansas and Colorado, Dr. Moser's perspective has been invaluable to me and will likewise prove beneficial to the VA."

"I am honored and excited to accept this important role in representing rural veterans' health care interests and concerns," Dr. Bob Moser said. "The care for our rural and urban veterans in underserved communities has been a key point of discussion and activity by both the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians and American Academy of Family Physicians. I look forward to the task and opportunity to serve."

The committee consists of 13 members familiar with rural health issues that come from the federal, state and local sectors, academia and veterans service organizations. The advisory committee will provide guidance to Secretary Peake and to Dr. Michael J. Kussman, VA's Under Secretary for Health. The panel's first meeting is tentatively scheduled for this summer.

Dr. Moser grew up in Tribune and returned there after completing medical school at the University of Kansas. He serves as the Medical Chief of Staff and practices at Greeley County Hospital. He is married to Dalene and they have two children. Dr. Moser was named the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians Family Physician of the Year in 2006.

Moran is a senior member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.
