Hagel Statement on Tragedy at Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch in Western Iowa
U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) issued the following statement today regarding the tragic loss of life after a Wednesday night tornado hit the Little Sioux Boy Scout Ranch in western Iowa:
"On Wednesday night, the states of Nebraska and Iowa lost the lives of four young men. Lilibet and I join all Nebraskans in extending our deepest sympathies and prayers to the families and friends of those who lost loved ones in this tragic event. The Boy Scouts of America taught them the values of leadership and public service, and their troop's reaction to the storm in assisting each other in such a difficult time is an inspiration to all of us."
Boy Scout officials identified the deceased as Aaron Eilerts, 14, of Eagle Grove, Iowa and Josh Fennen, 13, Sam Thomsen, 13, and Ben Petrzilka, 14, all of Omaha. Forty-eight are reported injured. Officials say the tornado formed about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, hitting the camp shortly afterward with little warning.
