Governor Sanford Issues Statement on House Veto Sustains
GOVERNOR CALLS HOUSE SUSTAINING THREE VETOES A GOOD START
Governor Mark Sanford today issued the following statement on the House sustaining his first three budget vetoes before adjourning for the weekend:
"We're certainly hopeful that this is a sign of what's to come in the House, and to that end I'd give real credit to those who voted on the side of fiscal conservatism today," Gov. Sanford said. "By all accounts, these vetoes represent the last chance we will have this year to limit spending and apply it to very real shortfalls elsewhere in government. Saying no to spending is never easy, but we believe the state faces some profound challenges this year with respect to deficits at Corrections and the Department of Education, and I want to thank those House members who voted in favor of meeting those challenges."
