From 1979 to 2004, the FISA Court approved 99.97% of all applications for wiretapping warrants. To date, this Administration has not cited a valid reason for circumventing the Court's jurisdiction, and I reiterate my call for the Bush Administration to utilize the FISA Court so that we can both win the War on Terror and protect the freedom of the American people.
Finally, we must improve our efforts to convince people all over the world, particularly young Muslims, that our shared path of human freedom and dignity is far superior to the choice of death and destruction. As a member of the House Armed Services committee, I will continue my work and determination to protect our great nation from the threat of terrorism.
I strongly believe that the best way to protect Americans from terrorism is to provide the most homeland security funding to communities that face the greatest risk of terrorist attack and require the most federal financial assistance.
-- Congressman Rob Andrews
Rob Andrews understands that, as the 9/11 Commission concluded, the most grave threat to our national security is loose nuclear material that could fall into the hands of terrorists. He has been among the leaders in measures to prevent this horror, by advocating for more rapid conversion of nuclear reactors in the former Soviet Union from fuels that could be used to make a bomb to fuels that almost certainly could not be used to make a bomb.
