Congresswoman Niki Tsongas and the Merrimack Valley Economic Development Council will host an economic development conference entitled "Green, Clean and Sustainable: Economic Development for the 21st Century," on Monday May 19th, which will bring together major local employers, community leaders, and economic development experts to discuss ways to grow green collar jobs in the Fifth District. The green technology industry, which produces a wide variety of environmentally-friendly products from hydrogen fuel cells to recycled plastics, has grown expediently in recent years in both the research and manufacturing sectors.

Conference attendees will be able to meet one-on-one and network with a variety of green companies and community leaders from across the region to learn about how the Fifth District can take advantage of this growing industry.

"As we seek solutions to our nation's energy crisis, there are several innovative employers right in our backyard that are producing the alternative energy technologies which will help limit our foreign oil dependence and the harmful effects of climate change, while simultaneously creating outstanding green collar jobs for residents of the Fifth District. The Merrimack Valley is fertile ground for the further growth and development of these jobs and this economic development conference that I am hosting will bring together job creation and environmental experts with leaders in our communities to discuss the steps that should be taken in order to encourage the further growth of this industry in our region," said Congresswoman Niki Tsongas.
