Affirming Equality for Women - A longtime supporter for the rights of women, Susan is a leader in Congress on women's issues. She is a sponsor of a constitutional amendment to ensure the equality of all Americans regardless of gender. (H.J.Res 40 cosponsored on March 27, 2007)
Protecting Americans from Hate Crimes - Susan has been a consistent supporter of the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act which would expand federal hate crime protections to offenses involving actual or perceived religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. (H.R. 1592, R.C. #299 passed 237 to 180, May 3, 2007)
Defending our Civil Liberties - Acknowledging that the United States's greatness is a direct result of the freedoms we enjoy, Susan has used her role in Congress to oppose efforts to erode civil liberties. She has opposed efforts to expand warrantless wiretapping and passage of constitutional amendments that restrict the civil rights of our citizens. (S. 1927, R.C. # 836 passed 227-183, August 4, 2007)

Supporting Domestic Partner Benefits - Susan is a cosponsor of, H.R. 2792, the Family and Medical Leave Inclusion Act. This measure would extend Family and Medical Leave Act provisions to same sex spouses and domestic partners. Susan is also a cosponsor of the Uniting American Families Act, H.R. 2221, which allows U.S. citizens to sponsor their domestic partners for immigration purposes.
