Issue Position: Seniors - Social Security
I strongly believe that we must not only protect, but strengthen Social Security without increasing the deficit, harming the middle class, or slashing guaranteed benefits. As the main source of retirement income for many seniors, any attempt to reduce benefits or alter how seniors receive these benefits could jeopardize the financial stability Social Security provides. I oppose any attempts to privatize Social Security, including taking money out of the Trust Fund for individuals to invest or allowing the federal government to use the Social Security surplus to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy. Current and future beneficiaries simply cannot afford any attempts to weaken the solvency of the program. Instead, I believe we must create incentives to encourage retirement savings and protect the pensions of hard-working Americans. All New Jerseyans deserve a decent nest egg to live on when they retire.
