Cap and Trade Revenue -- (Senate - May 07, 2008)

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

AMENDMENT NO. 4719

Mr. KENNEDY. Mr. President, The issue of wind coverage is important and is a concern of many families across the country and in my home State of Massachusetts and the Cape. Legislation must be developed that helps those families facing the threat of wind damage without harming those who already have flood insurance. I have the assurance from the chairman of the Banking Committee, my friend the senior Senator from Connecticut, that this is his intention as well and that he intends for a commission to study the issue and present to Congress a set of responsible recommendations for addressing this need.

For this reason, I oppose the Wicker amendment at this time in order to allow further study of the matter and that a consensus approach may be put forward in the Senate in the near future.
