"Central Florida Community College in Ocala provides hundreds within our community the education and skills they need to make it to the next level in their lives," said Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Ocala). "The school provides the accessibility and flexibility that meets the specific needs of its students. While meeting the educational demands of our area, CFCC is directly strengthening the local economy, especially through its Equine Studies Program. I am very proud that I was able to secure $95,305 for the curriculum development of the Equine Studies Program."
Marion, Citrus, and Levy Counties contain nearly 1,000 horse farms that support 60,000 jobs. Explained Stearns, "Many of those working on horse farms have limited educational opportunities that limit career advancement. In addition, horsed farm owners have difficulties finding workers with training and education in the equine industry. The Equine Studies Program at CFCC provides education and training for area students and creates a pool of talent for the equine industry."
Stearns will present the $95,305 to the President of CFCC Ocala, Dr. Charles Dassance, at an event on Monday, March 24, 2008. The check presentation is scheduled between 4:00 and 4:30 PM at the Klein Conference Center, CFCC, 3001 SW College Road.
