Dear Friends:

Last week, I talked about tax day, which is quickly approaching on April 15th. I know that tax season is dreaded by many, so today I hoped to share information that will make filing your taxes easier.

If you have access to a computer and the Internet, you may be eligible to prepare and file your 2007 federal tax return electronically—for free. Free File is an easy way to file your taxes and get your refund in half the time. The IRS and the Free File Alliance help taxpayers who earn $54,000 or less to electronically prepare and file their federal tax returns free of charge.

In order to receive a 2008 economic stimulus payment, individuals must file a tax return this year. New Jerseyans who qualify can easily use the IRS Free File program to help them file returns. If you need additional information on Free File, check out the IRS website at www.irs.gov.

Sincerely,

Scott Garrett

ISSUE OF THE WEEK: UPPER SADDLE RIVER RECEIVES COOL CITIES GRANT

The borough of Upper Saddle River was recently presented with a Cool Cities Grant from New Jersey and was given funds to help plant trees. The Cool Cities grant allows the town to plant 100 trees on public property. These trees will provide shade in the summer and block wind in the winter. Rockland Electric donated small saplings in order to initiate the new tree planting effort.
