Rep. Loebsack Outlines Priorities for 2008 as Congress Reconvenes

Today, as the United State House of Representatives convened to begin the second session of the 110th Congress, Congressman Dave Loebsack (IA-02) laid out his legislative priorities for 2008.

"During my first year in Congress I am proud to say we began to take our country in a new direction, and passed legislation that will help the hard working families of Iowa's Second District," said Congressman Loebsack. "This year I am hoping to build on this momentum to address the economic, healthcare and education concerns facing Iowa's families."

In 2007, the House of Representatives passed over 130 key measures, most with broad bipartisan support. These included the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 that provided for the first minimum wage increase in over ten years, the College Cost Reduction and Access Act that will make college more affordable and accessible for Iowa students, and the FY 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Bill that provided the largest increase in veterans' funding in the 77-year history of the VA.

"During my recent 15 county listening tour of the Second District, I heard first hand from my constituents about the issues that matter most," added Congressman Loebsack. "These conversations help determine my work in Congress because my highest priority is to provide the people of the Second District with the best representation and constituent service possible."

In the second session of the 110th Congress, Congressman Dave Loebsack has stated that he will continue work on bringing our troops home safely and responsibly from Iraq, ensuring that every child in Iowa receive a first-rate education, providing our nation's veterans with the support they need and deserve, and making health care more affordable and accessible. Lastly, Congressman Loebsack intends to address growing economic concerns, and will work with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle in an effort to provide immediate relief to Iowa's middle class families.

The opening of the second session of the 110th Congress will mark Congressman Dave Loebsack's second year in Congress as the representative from Iowa's Second District. He serves on the House Education and Labor Committee and the House armed Services Committee.
