Issue Position: Fighting for Wisconsin Families - Getting Wisconsin Its Fair Share

Every year the appropriations process provides an opportunity to seek and secure funding for Wisconsin projects from important highway repairs to local Boys and Girls Clubs to cops on the beat to aid for struggling dairy farmers in times of low milk prices. These are not pork projects. They are the investments the citizens of Wisconsin deserve on the tax dollars they send to Washington D.C.

I never hesitate to fight for Wisconsin schools striving to provide a top education to our kids, for Wisconsin law enforcement officials combating drugs and violence, for Wisconsin communities struggling to ensure that their water supplies are safe, or for Wisconsin neighborhoods seeking to provide a better standard of living for their residents.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I work hard to increase federal funding for worthy Wisconsin projects. My office uses strict criteria to identify competitive projects in the state, and each year I personally visit many of the projects to ensure that the funding is necessary and well used. The projects I support for funding are recommended at the local level by people who know how federal dollars can be used.
