Issue Position: Protecting Our Homeland
Americans everywhere rightly applauded the willingness of Democrats and Republicans to work together in the 107th Congress to put aside our differences to wage the war on terrorism and improve homeland security. We must continue to work in a bipartisan fashion to protect our homeland from future terrorist attacks. As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I will again work with my colleagues and the Administration to ensure that our military gets the resources it needs to fight terrorism abroad, as well as ensure that our front lines of first responders -- firemen, health professionals, and police -- get the funds they need to keep us safe at home.
Additionally, I will continue to look at every vulnerability, such as charter aircraft regulations, which could leave us open to another surprise attack. Ultimately, we must make it our goal never to be surprised again.
