Boxer Statement on States' and Conservation Groups' Effort to Enforce Supreme Court Mandate on Global Warming Pollution

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding a petition filed today by conservation groups and 17 states, including California, to force the US Environmental Protection Agency to comply with a year-old Supreme Court decision on global warming pollution.

Senator Boxer said: "The Bush Administration was told to act on global warming by no less than the highest court in the land a year ago, and yet they still have failed to take the steps necessary to address this challenge. Once again we have to rely on the courts to ensure that EPA does its job, to protect the American people from the ravages of global warming. Administrator Johnson should be here in the U.S. stepping up to this challenge. Instead, he is exploring global warming in Australia, which does not qualify as the kind of action the Supreme Court was talking about."
