ALLARD COMMENDS CITY COUNCIL VOTE TO ENSURE U.S. OLYMPIC COMMITTEE REMAINS IN COLORADO SPRINGS

Colorado's Senior U.S. Senator Has Been a Tireless Advocate for USOC in Colorado Springs

U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) praised today's vote by the Colorado Springs City Council that will ensure a long term agreement to keep the U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters in Colorado Springs.

"Today's vote by the Colorado Spring City Council to keep the US Olympic Committee and the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs is the best possible outcome for the city, the Pikes Peak region and the State of Colorado," said Senator Allard. "After more than 30 years, the USOC is engrained in the fabric of the Colorado Springs community and this decision ensures a continued, long-term partnership between the city and the USOC."

Allard has been an active supporter of USOC and has been in close contact with USOC Chairman, Peter Ueberroth. In December 2007, Allard lead a delegation letter to Ueberroth encouraging the headquarters to remain in Colorado Springs.

"The Colorado Springs community's support and investment in the USOC by providing a successful public-private partnership that incorporates many segments of Colorado Springs is tremendous," continued Senator Allard. "With the upcoming 2008 Olympics, where our athletes will represent the United States in the summer games, I am pleased that long-term arrangement is in place for our athletes. I am also glad to see that this arrangement will likely grow the U.S. Paralympic program and will continue to foster its relationship with the U.S Dept. of Defense and Veterans Affairs."

The U.S. Olympic Complex in Colorado Springs is the headquarters for the USOC administration and the Olympic Training Center (OTC) programs. There are currently 12 USOC member organizations that have their national headquarters on the complex.
