STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR DESIGNATE DAVID A. PATERSON REGARDING THE CRANE COLLAPSE IN NEW YORK CITY

On behalf of the State of New York, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed or injured in today's horrific crane collapse in New York City. The State stands ready to offer any and all assistance to the City of New York during the rescue operation. Earlier today I spoke with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and at the scene I was briefed on rescue operations by Deputy Secretary for Public Safety Michael Balboni. I also met with representatives from the State Emergency Management Office and I reiterated the State's commitment to work closely with City officials to expedite any requests for additional resources.
