Issue Position: Unwanted Telemarketing Calls and Privacy

I believe Arkansans should be able to decide whether or not to receive telemarketing calls at their home. As Attorney General, I implemented the Arkansas Do-Not-Call Registry that prevented telemarketers from calling those Arkansans who did not want to be bothered. More recently, the Federal Trade Commission implemented a national Do-Not-Call Registry modeled after the program I implemented in Arkansas.

I am a strong supporter of the national Do-Not-Call Registry, and I remain committed to ensuring that it remains free and effective for consumers. I introduced and passed legislation signed into law that would require telemarketers to continue to pay for the operation of the registry on a permanent basis. In addition, I strongly support legislation that would prevent the Federal Trade Commission from requiring consumers who have already registered their number from having to re-register.
