Barbara Lee Supports California's Emission Rule

Press Release

Date: March 6, 2008
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Energy

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9), an original co-sponsor of the Right to Clean Vehicles Act, released the following statement regarding the new legislation which will overturn the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to deny California's request for a waiver under the Clean Air Act to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles:

"I am proud to be an original co-sponsor of the Right to Clean Vehicles Act, which is intended to immediately grant California's waiver, as well as provide the authority for a growing number of additional states seeking to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from motor vehicles.

"There is simply no excuse for the Bush administration to deny California's waiver, or any other state's effort to combat global warming and promote the use of cleaner, more efficient vehicles on their roads.

"The Right to Clean Vehicles Act will give a much-needed green light to states taking the right approach to achieving a greener future and I am proud to support it."

Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-9) sits on the House Appropriations Committee, where she serves on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education Subcommittee, the State Foreign Operations Subcommittee and is Vice-Chair of the Legislative Branch Subcommittee.
