Today, the House voted on Senate amendments to the House passed economic stimulus package. Congressman Mike Michaud issued the following statement on the Senate and House passage:
"It's important to move this package quickly, and I strongly support the Senate including extra help for disabled veterans and low-income seniors. However, I am disappointed that LIHEAP and unemployment benefits were not included in the final package.
"While I recognize that this stimulus is a short term solution for the immediate challenges facing our economy, providing long term investment in our state to create jobs remains my priority. We must also address the growing deficit that will be a burden for generations.
"This bill may not be perfect, but it will help Americans pay their bills and stimulate the economy and that is why it received my support."
