Congressman Davis Announces More Than $13 Million in Federal Resources for Area Veterans Hospitals

U.S. Representative Artur Davis (D-Ala.) today announced more than $13 million in federal resources for Veterans Administration medical facilities in the 7th Congressional District.

Of these resources, offered as part of the 2008 omnibus spending package, nearly $7 million would be used to increase bed space in Birmingham's veterans' hospital, while another $6.4 million would be used for major improvements at the Tuscaloosa facility.

Congressman Davis, who has served as an outspoken advocate for veterans needs since entering the House, said these federal resources will be used to aid veterans who are physically and mentally wounded as a result of their service in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"With nearly 30,000 wounded service men and women resulting from the war in Iraq alone, this federal allocation will go a long way towards providing these veterans the critical medical care they need," Davis said. "The VA hospitals in Birmingham and Tuscaloosa are among the best in the nation, and I am pleased that individuals who deserve the highest care we can provide will benefit from treatment at these facilities.
