U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, issued the following statement today after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 5140, the Recovery Rebates and Economic Stimulus for the American People Act, an economic stimulus package that will provide tax rebates to middle- and low-income American families:

"Today the House passed a measure that aims to boost our economy by issuing rebate checks to America's taxpayers, and it is the hope of Congress that American citizens will see the benefits of investing into their own economy," Alexander said.

"However, I am concerned that the House version of the bill passed today neglects our seniors who receive Social Security as their income. Many seniors live on fixed budgets, and the final version of this bill must include a provision to give rebates to this group. The Senate version does include such language, and I am committed to seeing this provision remain intact in the final bill."
