DIAZ-BALARTS, ROS-LEHTINEN VOTE TO EXTEND SCHIP
Today the House of Representatives passed an 18-month extension of the State Children's Health Insurance Program, commonly referred to as SCHIP. Congressmen Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) and Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL) are cosponsors of an 18-month extension and made the following statement:
"This is a victory for both children and taxpayers," said Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart. "This extension ensures that we protect the children who lack health coverage and proves that we do not need to raise taxes to accomplish it. I will continue working to further improving this already successful program."
"Recognizing the need to continue to afford our community with affordable, comprehensive health care coverage, we must increase federal contributions in order to assist states in providing medical services for our low income children, not adults who are above the poverty line," said Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
"This fully-funded 18-month extension of the SCHIP program is a victory in our continuing fight to protect children who need health care coverage," said Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart. "It is unfortunate that the debate on such an important issue as child health care became poisoned by political partisanship. I remain strongly committed to this highly successful and important program, and will continue to work for a bipartisan long-term solution," concluded Diaz-Balart.
