Clay responds to President Bush's State of the Union Address

STATEMENT OF CONGRESSMAN WM. LACY CLAY

"Tonight's speech was a stark reminder of why we need new leadership and a powerful change of direction in this country. The American spirit is strong, but the State of our Union is troubled.

Our economy is on the brink of recession and millions of families are facing foreclosures, layoffs and higher prices for food, fuel and all the essentials. In Iraq, our brave troops are still bogged down in a tragic and unnecessary war, with no real plan to end it.

I hope that the President will use his remaining time in office to reach across the aisle to work with us on the urgent unfinished business of the American people."
