Crowley: Treasury Report Lacks Real Consequences for American Economy

Crowley Decries Treasury Competitiveness Report as Inconsequential

Today, Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-Queens & the Bronx), a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, issued the following statement in response to the US Department of Treasury's report on business tax competitiveness.

"I am disappointed, but not surprised, that the Treasury Department missed yet another opportunity to provide a blue print of ways to create more jobs in the United States," Crowley said.

"American workers and businesses know we are competing in a global economy. They are the best and the brightest, but they are looking to the Bush Administration for leadership on how to keep the U.S. on the cutting-edge of business development, technological advancement and job growth. Unfortunately, this Administration seems content to put out reports that will have no consequence rather than put forth a call for action aimed at bolstering the United States' competitive edge in the world.

"Now is the time for the Bush Administration to work with Chairman Charles Rangel, whose forward thinking proposals would meaningfully reform our tax code to grow our economy and benefit hard-working Americans."

Congressman Crowley has continually worked to protect and advance job growth in New York City, including his successful efforts to re-write the laws pertaining to foreign direct investment in the USA, pushing forward extensions and expansions of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) and open foreign markets to US goods.
